K ilbirnie is a pleasant suburb nestled between bush covered hills and the sea, 10 mins drive from city centre.

The village of Kilbirnie contains supermarkets and various shops, men's and women's wear, chemists, antique shops, hairdressers and a variety of ethnic food outlets. There are several cafés within walking distance and a licensed restaurant only a 1 minute walk away.

Opposite the 747 Motel the Aquatic Centre provides lane swimming, diving, aqua jogging, pools for children and a separate toddlers pool. Within the complex there is a fitness centre, saunas, spas and a café all open from 6am to 9pm.

The 747 Motel is positioned on a very good bus route into the city centre, or 10 minutes drive by car. You will find Te Papa, the new National Museum, situated on the waterfront close to the Central Business District. This area is quite compact which makes it a great city to walk around. The ferry terminal, the railway station and the new stadium are 10 - 15 minutes away from the motel by car.
